  1. Using a table saw, cut grooves along the top long sides of the MDF boards.
  2. On an old sheet or drop cloth, sand the plywood, and remove all dust with lint-free cloth.
  3. Paint the MDF boards with desired color.
  4. Apply stain to the plywood top with a foam brush, and wipe excess with a paper towel. Allow it to dry.
  5. Assemble the desk upside down. Apply a small line of wood glue along the grooves of the MDF boards, and align them to fit on the sides of the plywood top. Allow the glue to dry.
  6. Secure the inside of the legs to the desk top with a screwdriver, L-brackets and short screws.
  7. Turn desk upright, and apply painter’s tape stripes to the sides of the legs.
  8. Apply stain on exposed fiberboard between the taped stripes with a paper towel. Remove painter’s tape immediately, and allow it to dry.
  9. Apply a coat of polyurethane on entire project, then sand lightly and remove dust with a lint-free cloth.
  10. Wait 4 hours and repeat step 9. Allow it to dry.
